The Ink Cartridge Refilling Process

Many HP ink cartridges can be refilled to a significantly higher volume than they were originally designed to be. We electrically test all HP cartridges before refilling them, we empty them, clean the print head and electrical contacts, flush out the old ink, clean them again and then refill them with ink that has been specifically formulated for each cartridge type. After refilling under vacuum with state of the art equipment, often with extra ink volume, we electrically test them again, clean, reseal and re-label them.

Look out for our Plus (+) and Double-Plus (++) Versions

Many cartridges are refilled at Coventry Photo Centre to three different volumes: standard, plus (+) and double plus (++). The standard version is refilled with the same volume of ink as quoted by HP …. or more! The plus and the double plus versions will have volumes that are significantly more. One of the most popular refills is the HP 21 black cartridge, see below ….

Some Hp 21 ink cartridges have a very small sponge inside. These can generally only be refilled to the standard volume. However, some also have larger sponges inside, we identify these and we then create much larger volume versions. We do a plus version with roughly double the original volume and a double plus version with at least three times the original volume. We can always tell our customers what volume a certain cartridge has been refilled to. All individually refilled HP ink cartridges are fully electrically and print tested at Coventry Photo Centre before we sell them, meaning that we are very confident about their quality and reliability.

We’ve been doing this for a long time and our return failure rate is incredibly small. However, we are mindful of the fact that we are refilling a product that has already been used before and, as with new original cartridges, they can occasionally fail. If it does go wrong, we guarantee to put it right!

Our roots actually lie in the printer cartridge supply and refilling industry. Our owners were the first people to open a dedicated ink and toner cartridge refilling shop in Coventry back in 2002 – on the same site as Coventry Photo Centre is now.  We supply many local businesses including schools, charities, NHS and Healthcare departments, colleges, solicitors, accountants, engineering firms throughout Coventry and outlying towns and villages as well as having around 10,000 registered local domestic customers throughout Coventry.

We refill printer cartridges for most home and small office printers. This includes refilling ink and laser toner cartridges. Many of the refilling techniques we use are unique to ourselves, developed by our own staff and mainly using equipment developed by ourselves.

Quality and Reliability

Our ink and toner cartridge refills are of the highest possible standards. We are very careful to empty and clean our cartridges (unlike the vast majority of our competitors!), we thoroughly electrically test them and we only use good quality ink and toner supplies when refilling and remanufacturing. In addition to this, where appropriate we use our own sealing techniques (again, something that many of the ink refill franchises have never been able to master!), which means that we expect the cartridge to store without deterioration for much longer.

Many customers do not realise that most cartridges are available in more than one ‘size’ and that they are often not filled completely by the original manufacturers. We analyse each cartridge individually and we fill it as much as possible. Not all cartridges are the same, even when labelled the same by the original manufacturers. This is why many of our refilled cartridges come as standard, plus (+) and double plus (++) versions. In every case, our refills are significantly cheaper than they were originally and more often than not they have extra ink or toner for longer life!

These days it is important to make sure that you have photos that meet the strict criteria for size, colour and composition set by the passport office.

We offer a no-quibble guarantee to take your photo again free of charge if, for any reason, the photo is rejected by the passport office. All you need to do is return the original photos with an explanation as to what is wrong. It’s worth pointing out that it’s a very rare event though!
